CALL FOR ABSTRACTS AND EXTENDED ABSTRACTS
  • Author Guidelines for Concept Papers for Keynote Speakers
The concept paper should be written in continuous paragraph form without subtitles and should clearly and coherently address the key aspects of the proposed study.
The content should clearly describe the research or practice being undertaken, including its philosophical and conceptual foundations, the specific areas of Indigenous Knowledge Systems relevant to the selected theme, and the anticipated future perspectives.
Authors should also discuss how the chosen field of Indigenous Knowledge Systems can be preserved, adapted, and applied for the betterment of society, as well as how the proposed work may contribute to innovation, scientific advancement, or related interdisciplinary applications.

*The total length of the concept paper must not exceed 1,000 words.
All concept papers should be prepared using the following Sinhala or English formats and must clearly identify the relevant pillar and conference track.

National Conference on Indigenous Knowledge Systems (NCIKS) 2026

General Scope

Submissions should be based on recently completed or ongoing research, practices, or case studies grounded in Indigenous Knowledge Systems. Papers must clearly demonstrate the use of indigenous knowledge, indigenous methodologies, or indigenous epistemological approaches, either independently or in combination with modern scientific or interdisciplinary methods.

All submissions must be original, unpublished work and should respect ethical standards, cultural sensitivity, and community ownership of Indigenous Knowledge.

Abstracts and Extended Abstracts may be submitted in Sinhala or English, written in clear and academically appropriate language.

To be considered for evaluation, each submission should include the following documents:

  1. A short abstract not exceeding 300 words.
  2. An extended abstract (including the research background, research objectives, research design / materials and methods, results / findings, conclusions, and references) not exceeding 1500 words.
  3. The declaration form completed and signed by the corresponding author.

Deadline for submission of abstracts: 30th January 2026

Guidelines for preparation of abstracts are attached.

Please follow the instructions carefully. Please note that abstracts which are not prepared according to the required guidelines, or submitted after the deadline, will not be considered for publication.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

 1. The abstracts must showcase original and innovative research not previously presented or published elsewhere.
 2. The author/s should have adhered to ethical norms in conducting the research.
 3. An author may submit a maximum of one (01) abstract as a single-author, and up to three (03) abstracts as a co-author.
     No author shall submit more than four (04) abstracts in total.

Guidelines for preparation of abstracts (Maximum 300 words)

The following abstract submission template should be used for the preparation of abstracts.

  1. The relevant sub-theme should be specified at the top of the abstract, above the authors’ names.
  2. Capital letters should be used only for the initials and the first letters of the surnames of authors.
  3. The affiliation of the institution where the work was carried out should be included under the author’s name.
  4. If the collaborators are from different institutions, the addresses of the institutions should be briefly included.
  5. Include the email address of the corresponding author.

In this case, the addresses of the co-authors should be indicated by a number in superscript after the authors’ names and before the respective addresses as given below.

 6. The title should be brief and reflect the study reported.

7. The text of the abstract should not exceed 300 words excluding title, author affiliations, acknowledgements, and keywords.

8. The abstract should include the purpose and background of the research, and must be structured as introduction, methods, findings/results, and conclusions.
9. A maximum of five (05) keywords could be provided.
10.The abstract should be coherent and free of language errors.
11.The abstract should fit into a single B5 page with 1-inch margins all round, font Times New Roman, size 11, and 1.15 spacing.

Guidelines for preparation of extended abstracts (should be submitted with the abstract) 

The abstract submission template should be used for the preparation of abstracts.

  1. Title of the abstract: The title of the abstract should be brief and should reflect the study reported.
  2. The text should not exceed 1500 words (excluding references).
  3. The extended abstract should cover the following aspects: The research background, research objectives, research design/materials and methods, results/findings, conclusions and references.
  4. The extended abstract should be coherent and free of language errors.
  5. Tables and diagrams /figures can be included and should be referred to in the text as Table 1 or Fig. 1...etc.
  6. References should be limited to only essential ones.
  7. References should be formatted in Harvard reference style.
  8. Extended abstracts should be submitted in B5 size format with 1-inch margins all round, font Times New Roman, size 11, and 1.15 spacing.

All Authors are required to duly complete the declaration form, affirming their consent to share knowledge, and submit it along with the concept paper/Abstract/Full paper.

Your submission (short abstract, extended abstract and declaration form) should be submitted to the Email: nationalconference@gwu.ac.lk

  1. The email subject line should read: “NCIKS2026 – Abstracts and Extended Abstracts Submission – [Sender’s Name]”.
  2. The abstract submission should be in Word format.
  3. Do not submit the same abstract multiple times.
  4. Your abstract submission should have three documents containing: a. the short abstract, b. the extended abstract and c. declaration form (must be signed, scanned, and submitted)
  5. Please note that all correspondence will be addressed to the corresponding author.
