GWUIM Participation in National Workshop on Advancing Women in STEM

The Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM) actively participated in the national workshop titled “Advancing Women in STEM: Opportunity, Equity, Entrepreneurship and Well-Being,” held on 26th March 2026 at the UCFM Tower, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.

The workshop was organized under the auspices of the University Grants Commission (UGC) with the objective of promoting gender equity, leadership, and well-being among women in STEM disciplines across Sri Lankan universities.

Representing GWUIM, the delegation included the Director of the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE), three academic staff members from respective faculties, and ten undergraduate students. The participants actively engaged in discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions focused on enhancing opportunities for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The workshop provided an important platform to explore contemporary challenges and opportunities related to gender inclusivity, academic advancement, entrepreneurship, and institutional support systems. It also facilitated inter-university collaboration and networking among participants.

GWUIM’s participation reflects its continued commitment to fostering inclusive academic environments, empowering female academics and students, and contributing to national initiatives on gender equity in higher education.
