CGEE Director Conducts Sessions on Diversity and Inclusion During GWUIM Freshers’ Orientation Programme

The Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE), Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM), actively participated in the Freshers’ Orientation Programme conducted for the 2024/2025 student intake across FIM, FISSMS (onsite )and FIHST (online) of the University.
As a part of the orientation programme, the Director of CGEE delivered an introductory session on the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality, outlining its vision, mission, objectives, and the range of services and support mechanisms available to students and staff. The session highlighted the Centre’s commitment to promoting an inclusive, respectful, and equitable university environment.
In addition, the Director conducted a special awareness session titled “Learning to Live with Diversity”, focusing on the importance of embracing diversity in contemporary university life. The programme encouraged students to appreciate differences in gender, culture, ethnicity, religion, language, abilities, and social backgrounds while fostering mutual respect, empathy, and understanding among peers.
The interactive sessions provided first-year students with valuable insights into creating a positive and inclusive campus culture. Students were encouraged to actively contribute to maintaining a safe, supportive, and discrimination-free learning environment throughout their academic journey at GWUIM.
The Centre for Gender Equity and Equality extends its best wishes to all newly enrolled students and looks forward to working together to build a university community founded on dignity, equality, and respect for diversity.
