The Faculty of Indigenous Medicine offers Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree approved by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. BAMS degree has been recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) for postgraduate studies. The Faculty's commitment to medical education is rooted in the fundamental belief that a well-educated, well-trained, and socially conscious physician will provide patient care that is medically and clinically sound, compassionate, and safe. The Faculty believes that indigenous medicine is best studied through an approach that integrates traditional medical knowledge and modern scientific knowledge. In 2011, the present Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) curriculum was designed in accordance with both national and international standards. Postgraduate qualified teaching staff specialized in different disciplines serve in all eight departments of the Faculty.
