Section 02: Innovations

The Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, invites young innovators around the world to submit Innovation Concept Papers for presentation at the Innovation Session of the Undergraduate Research Colloquium Faculty of Indigenous Medicine Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (URCFIM 2025)

This session aims to promote creativity, research-driven innovation, and entrepreneurship among university students through practical, design-based, and technology-enhanced solutions relevant to the fields of Indigenous Medicine, wellness, and allied disciplines.

Themes

  • Machinery and Equipment

Innovative devices and tools for healthcare, therapy, or wellness applications, locally produced lab instruments, herbal extraction devices, or experimental setups tailored for Indigenous Medicine research.

  • Models and Designs

Educational, clinical, or wellness-related models and creative prototypes.

  • Business Plans

Innovative entrepreneurship and startup ideas in the health, wellness, or tourism sectors.

  • Software / Applications

Digital innovations, mobile apps, or online platforms supporting Ayurveda, health, or education, Interactive learning models, digital simulations, AR/VR-based educational systems, or community awareness modules.

  • Interior Designs

Functional and aesthetic designs for Ayurvedic hospitals, wellness centers, or academic environments, Sustainable Practices.

  • Other

Herbal Product Innovation, Integrative Health Innovations, Community Wellness and Public Health, Research Tools and Laboratory Innovations, Cosmetic and Aesthetic Innovations, Wellness Tourism Concepts, Sustainable tourism initiatives

Entry Requirements

Open to local and international undergraduate students from recognized universities/institutions around the world.

Submissions may be individual or group-based (maximum of 3 members).

Guidelines

Concept papers must be written in English and submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) and PDF format.

The paper should not exceed 3-4 pages in length (excluding figures and references).

You should send a concept paper including the followings.

  • Title of the Innovation
  • Author(s) and Affiliation(s)
  • Theme Category
  • Brief Introduction/background
  • Problem/ Gap Identification
  • Objectives of the Innovation
  • Market analysis / Feasibility study (If available)
  • Description of the Concept / Design / Model
  • Potential Applications and Impact
  • Conclusion and Future Prospects
  • References (If available)

Font: Times New Roman,

Font Size : Topic- 14 pt, Content: 12 pt

Line Spacing: 1.5

Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides

Headings: Bold and clearly marked

Referencing Style: APA (7th Edition)

Evaluation Criteria

Submissions will be reviewed by the Innovation Review Panel based on:

  • Originality and Creativity
  • Relevance to theme
  • Feasibility and Practical Application
  • Social, Environmental, or Economic Impact
  • Clarity and Presentation

Presentation and Awards

Selected participants will be invited to present their concepts during the URCFIM 2025.

Innovations may be considered for prototype demonstrations or model displays.

Certificates and awards will be presented to outstanding innovations.

(The 1st Three places will be awarded with Medals and cash prizes.)
