The Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, situated in Yakkala town with convenient proximity to the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Teaching Hospital, holds a preeminent position as the premier institution for indigenous medical education within the nation. The formal inauguration of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine on March 1, 2021, marked a significant milestone, as it elevated the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute to the esteemed status of the 16th national university in Sri Lanka. Within the purview of this newly established university, the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine was instituted with the express purpose of providing an exemplary educational milieu conducive to the pursuits of learning, pedagogy, and research in the realm of Ayurveda medicine. This commitment aligns harmoniously with the enduring traditions that have been steadfastly upheld since the founding of our inaugural institute in 1929.
