Bachelor of Health Science Honours in Biomedical Technology
This Programme
The Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) in Biomedical Technology (BHSc Hons in BMT) is a degree program that creates an invaluable pathway, which arms its graduates with a combination of key theoretical and practical skills to work in the biomedical technology field. The degree programme introduces the aspects of Physics of Instrumentation, Biology, Medicine, Mathematics, Engineering Statistics, Medical Sciences, Information Technology, Medical Instrumentation, Biomechanics, and International Regulatory Standards.
The main objective of this programme is to produce professionals capable of providing expert advice and consultancy to health care service administrators on the types and sensitivity of medical instrumentation required as well as offering recommendations for sourcing and procurement of equipment.
In the BHSc Hons in Biomedical Technology degree programme, the inclusion of the various subject areas brings together experts from multiple disciplines which would support the goal of producing a graduate who exemplifies the qualities required by the national and international industry. Students graduating from this programme would have the quantitative and analytical skills necessary to undertake a range of biomedical instrumentation and management careers in industry, government, and non-government organizations.
In addition, all the undergraduates from the degree programme will receive the opportunity of completing their internships in their relevant fields for six months in their 4th year of study. This internship training period is designed to optimize the student's capabilities to work in mission-critical applications once they enter the medical workforce.
Benifits
The program provides academic and practical experience to students who wish to become technical professionals in Sri Lankan healthcare that are capable of coupling indigenous medical sciences to information systems, thereby complimenting the flavor of both without changing the fundamental principles of either.
Breaking from the tradition of limiting centuries old local knowledge to centuries old techniques, the program expands the potency of that science by coupling technology-based applications to indigenous medical knowledge creating the enabling environment for innovative advances in the healthcare field as a biomedical technocrat.
All the undergraduates will intern in their relevant fields for six months before graduation and the internship training period is designed to optimize the students capabilities to work in mission critical applications once they enter the medical workforce of the country.
