Guest Lecture on the Scientific Basis of Panchakarma: Bridging Ayurveda and Modern Medicine
At the invitation of the Department of Ayurveda, Western Province, a guest lecture titled “Scientific Basis of Panchakarma: Bridging Ayurveda and Modern Medicine” was successfully conducted for the Medical Officers serving under the Department of Ayurveda, Western Province on 6th August, 2026.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. K. G. C. Dissanayaka, Senior Lecturer Grade I, Head, Department of Desheeya Cikitsa, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine.
The session explored the scientific foundations of Panchakarma therapy and contemporary evidence related to its therapeutic applications. Particular attention was given to understanding traditional Ayurvedic concepts through the perspective of modern biomedical sciences and to identifying opportunities for evidence-based integration of Ayurveda with contemporary healthcare.
The programme provided a valuable academic and professional platform for Medical Officers to enhance their knowledge of Panchakarma, critically engage with emerging scientific evidence, and discuss contemporary approaches to the integration of traditional Ayurvedic practices with modern medicine.
The lecture contributed to strengthening professional capacity and promoting the continued development of evidence-informed Ayurvedic healthcare practices.
