Inaugural Ceremony of BAMS Orientation Programme 2023/2024 Successfully Held

The Inaugural Ceremony of the BAMS Orientation Programme 2023/2024 was successfully held on May 20, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Mini Auditorium of Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM). The event marked a significant milestone for the new entrants and was graced by the presence of their parents, along with a distinguished gathering of esteemed guests.

The programme was organized by Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, GWUIM under the leadership of Professor K.P.P. Peiris, Dean, FIM, GWUIM and the contribution of Dr. M.N.S. Marasingha (Coordinator), Dr. R.R.P.S. Nilmini and Dr. Umesha Withanachchi (Co-coordinators).

The ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Professor Senaka Pilapitiya, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Moratuwa. Among the distinguished attendees were:

  • Professor Ranjana Wickrama Seneviratna, Vice Chancellor, GWUIM
  • Professor K.P.P. Peiris, Dean, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, GWUIM
  • Mr. B.A.N. Krishantha, Registrar, GWUIM

  • Heads of Departments, Academic, Academic Supportive, and Non-Academic Staff of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, GWUIM

Highlights of the Event

The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome address by Professor K.P.P. Peiris, Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, GWUIM. Keynote speeches were delivered by Professor Senaka Pilapitiya and Professor Ranjana Wickrama Seneviratna, who shared insights and encouragement for the new batch of students embarking on their academic journey.

The event concluded on a gracious note with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Umesha Withanachchi, Department of Ayurveda Basic Principles, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, GWUIM.

The Orientation Programme not only marked the beginning of an academic journey for the new entrants but also reaffirmed the University’s steadfast commitment to nurturing future professionals through excellence in Indigenous Medical Education.
