Department of Management Studies

 

The Department of Management Studies of the Faculty of Indigenous Social Sciences and Management Studies is dedicated to producing innovative and highly motivated graduates with outreaching skills and competencies to march towards national development by means of value addition to the national resources base.

The Department offers a Bachelor of Science Honours in Service Management, which is a four-year honours degree program with a specialization in the field of service management. The program is designed as per the guidelines stipulated in the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework and placed at the SLQF level six. This program is designed to produce an academically and professionally capable, locally and globally competent service management graduate with diverse graduate attributes. Therefore, the graduates of this program will be skilled in management, service administration, accounting and finance, service excellence, quantitative analysis and knowledge generation, business skill development, technology, healthcare management, and critical thinking and decision-making, in diverse service-oriented settings.

The primary objective of introducing the Bachelor of Science Honours in Service Management degree is to produce competent and knowledgeable business graduates with managerial skills in understanding the business and service industry, along with analytical and problem-solving skills to apply that knowledge in a dynamic business environment. This degree program provides a career training opportunity for undergraduates leading to entry-level positions in customer service management, healthcare management, retail management, event management, supply chain management, and hospitality management. Students will gain conceptual knowledge of business and the service industry, along with analytical and problem-solving skills, to apply that knowledge in a dynamic setting. This degree program will cover core areas such as service management and administration, service quality management, finance for service management, and customer service and relationship management.

At the end of the program, the graduates are expected to develop professional knowledge, skills, attitudes, critical thinking and decision-making abilities within a generally accepted ethical and legal framework to be recognized as qualified service providers and entrepreneurs in the field of service management.
