The Shalyatantra is one of the most important sub-specialties of Ayurvedic medicine, and it occupies a very prestigious position amongst other branches. This particular branch is commonly deemed as an area which has made a remarkable contribution in the past for the scientific development of surgery in successive ages. Certain medical claims of the ancient surgical text, Susrutha Samhita have been proved by the modern sciences during 20th century and those ideas have yielded in many therapeutic advancements.
Further, the demand for qualified postgraduates and well-experienced Ayurveda practitioners is on the increase worldwide. The Ayurveda system of medicine should be developed so as to accept the emerging global health challenges. Therefore, well planned research in the field of Shalyatantra is crucial in generating new knowledge and skills to formulate effective management plans and strategies.
Faculty of Graduate Studies of Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine offers the Master of Science in Shalyatantra, a practical-oriented clinical program consisting of 60 credits of course units running through two academic years and Postgraduate Diploma in Shalyatantra is consisting of 30 credits of course units running through one academic year to fulfill this global requirement with the aim of producing competent medical practitioners who are capable of contributing to global health development by acting effectively and efficiently in any context throughout the globe.
The course gives a comprehensive view of Ayurveda Shalyatantra.
Applicants who seek admission to the programme should have following qualifications.
BAMS/BUMS/BSMS degree awarded by a recognized University/ Higher Educational Institute with a First class or Second Class pass
or
BAMS/BUMS/BSMS degree with a General pass and at least one year Postgraduate Degree or Diploma in Ayurveda/ Shalyatantra
or
DSAC/DSAMS/DIMS/DAMS qualification awarded by a recognized University/ Higher Educational Institution/ Institute with First Class or Second Class pass and at least 5 years of work experience after being registered in the Ayurveda Medical Council
or
DSAC/DSAMS/DIMS/DAMS qualification awarded by recognized University/ Higher Educational Institution/ Institute with a General pass and at least 5 years of work experience after being registered in the Ayurveda Medical Council, Sri Lanka and minimum one year postgraduate degree or diploma in Ayurveda or Ayurveda Shlyatantra
or
Any other equivalent qualifications accepted by the Senate of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine.
