Overview
The goal of the Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery Degree programme is to generate a competent Ayurveda Medical Professionals as to provide effective and efficient services in development of physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing of mankind by acting as a member of health team at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of health promotion in a setting of international community.
Ayurveda Prasüti Tantra (Obstetrics), Strī Roga (Gynecology) and Bāla Roga (Pediatrics) represents the most challenging and exciting border in medicine. The of Kaumārabhṛtya and Strī Roga is responsible for teaching Prasüti Tantra (Obstetrics), Strī Roga (Gynecology) and Bāla Roga (Neonatal Paediatrics) to BAMS undergraduate medical students of level IV and level V. The teaching programme for undergraduates is mainly conducted at the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Teaching Hospital for five days of the week and Antenatal clinics at maternity home at Kalagedihena, Baduwathugoda & Yakkala under five course units.
The department offers the most intellectually stimulating environment possible for the students. The department academics provide treatment and care for women with normal and abnormal pregnancy including the foetus and high-risk pregnancies and the scope of Gynaecology includes reproductive and sexual health, fertility control, disorders of the female genital tract and menopausal issues.
In addition, there are a number of undergraduates and post-graduates students pursuing their research through the department in its related fields and collaborative research with other disciplines as well. Cases of special areas like sub fertility (male and female), endometriosis, uterine fibroids, Bartholin cyst and PCOD are treated at Strī Roga clinic. Shērshāmbu (Hydrocephaly), Mahāshīrsha (Macrocephaly), Cerebral palsy and behavioral disorders, Nutritional disorders, Child-hood constipation and Pediatric heart diseases other than the common skin and respiratory problems are concern at Bāla Roga clinic. This helps to get more clinical exposure to Ayurveda undergrads.
At present academic staff of this department consists of three Senior Lecturers, two Lecturers and three non-academic staff.

Details of the Undergraduate, Diploma and certificate programmes
The Department of Kaumārabhṛtya and Strī Roga functions through three subject division of Bāla Roga (Ayurveda Pediatrics), Strī Roga (Gynecology) and Prasüti Tantra (Obstetrics).
- B.A.M.S. students of level IV and level V receive practical experience of Strī Roga (Ayurveda Gynecology) clinics and Bāla Roga clinic (Ayurveda Pediatric) at Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Teaching Hospital for five days of the week.
- Antenatal clinics at maternity home at Kalagedihena, Baduwathugoda & Yakkala under five course units.
