Field Study in the Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya The Department of Dravyaguna Vignana, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, successfully conducted a Field Study at the Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya, for Year 3 Semester I undergraduates (academic year 2022/2023) on December 17th, 2024.
This field study was aligned with the BAMS syllabus, focusing on plant identification, the study of morphological characteristics, and exploring the impact of plant collection techniques on herbarium specimen quality and preservation. Students were engaged in practical sessions and lectures led by the staff of the Royal Botanical Garden and the National Herbarium, providing them with valuable insights into the process of plant specimen collection and its importance in herbal research and preservation. The program will be evaluated at the end of Year 3 Semester I - End Semester Examination through plant identification and the submission of the recommended number of herbarium sheet preparations made by the students.
