The Inaugural Ceremony of BAMS Orientation Programme 2021/2022

The Inaugural Ceremony of BAMS Orientation Programme 2021/2022 was held on 6th July 2023, graced by distinguished members of the University including Professor Ranjana Wickrama Senevirathna, the Vice Chancellor, Dr. W.J. Wickramarachchi, the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, Professor Chandrasiri Welivita, the Dean Faculty of Graduate Studies, Dr. Shalika Pathirathna, the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Health Sciences and Technology, Mr. B.A.N. Krishantha, the Registrar, Mr. C.G. Kothalawela, the Bursar, all Heads of Departments and Academic staff members of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine and guest of honour Dr. Narendra Pinto, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon.

The Orientation Programme commenced with a solemn commemoration of Pandit G.P. Wickramarachchi, a founder of this institute, with heartfelt floral tributes.

Dr. W.J. Wickramarachchi, The Dean, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine extended a warm welcome to the newly enrolled students and emphasized the significance of Ayurveda in maintaining holistic health and well-being. She encouraged the students to uphold the ancient traditions and values of Ayurveda during their academic journey.

Dr. H.P. Wakkumbura, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Kaumarabrthya and Stree roga performed the traditional event of “Ath Poth Thebima”. This ritual signifies the formal commencement of Ayurveda medical education for the new batch of BAMS students.

Professor Ranjana Wickrama Senevirathna, The Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering and highlighted the university's commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous medical practices.

Dr. Narendra Pinto, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor.

Mr. B.A.N. Krishantha, The Registrar of the university addressed the gathering, discussing the administrative aspects of the academic journey and the support available to students throughout their course.

Mr. Janaka Ranjana, The Assistant Registrar of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, guests, and organizers who contributed to the success of the orientation programme. He encouraged the students to make the most of their educational opportunities and seek guidance whenever needed.

The orientation programme was coordinated by Dr. HPIJ Kaldera, Senior Lecturer, Department of Ayurveda Basic Principles.
