Welcome to the Faculty of Indigenous Social Sciences and Management Studies, one of the most recent additions at the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine. With the support of a dedicated and talented team of young academics and researchers we at the Faculty are geared to offer the Bachelor of Science Honours in Social Studies in Indigenous Knowledge and soon the Bachelor of Science Honours in Health Service Management along with a Diploma in Information Technology designed and offered especially for all undergraduates in the Social Sciences and Humanities stream. These programmes provide both theory and practical experience on assuring both knowledge, understanding as well as professional confidence to students who wish to become successful employees, business leaders, entrepreneurs, social policy planners, designers and development practitioners with the capacity to engage effectively with community partners at both the local and international levels.
The Faculty is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka where the idea is to employ up-to-date and cutting-edge internationally accepted concepts, theories and research methodologies to conceptualise indigenous knowledge, practices and social life and to take it to an international audience. In doing so, we endeavour to bring out indigenous knowledge, wisdom and cultural knowhow that have been passed down from generation to generation. We believe that the researching, teaching and dissemination of such knowledge would not only help us better understand ourselves and our society but also help create a peaceful and healthy civil society leading to the effective sustainable development of this country.
Therefore, we hope you will contribute with due diligence and enthusiasm to building a population of students and in turn citizens that are not only capable of understanding Sri Lankan society and social, cultural dynamics but also help support the country’s progress with the appropriate values, attitudes, critical and innovative thinking, professionalism and ethics.
We at the Faculty wish you success and the strength not only to excel in your academic endeavours but to take part in the various extracurricular activities offered at the university to help you achieve all your life’s goals.
