The Faculty of Indigenous Social Sciences and Management Studies (FISSMS) initiated the concept of "community engagement through volunteering" for its second-year undergraduates. As a part of this, the students grouped and organized themselves, led by the Faculty Students’ Union, and engaged in conceptualizing a series of community projects after proposing and presenting their projects to the staff.

One of the groups conducted an awareness program about landslides at the CP/KOT/Hedunuwewa Central College in Kothmale. They obtained the support of Mr. Malaka Jayasekara, who is a teacher in Geography, and also the support of the principal of the school, Mr. Lalitha Prithi Bandara.

Upon the completion of the awareness raising, school students were divided into 4 groups for a poster competition. Undergraduate students also took part in this. The best poster was selected, and gifts were presented at the end of the program. Special thanks to Jayani Chethana (Department of Indigenous Social Sciences) for organizing and coordinating this program.
