Offered by the Department of Management Studies, the Bachelor of Science Honours in Service Management is a four-year honours degree programme with focus areas of management, service administration, customer service management, service excellence, quantitative analysis & knowledge generation, accounting & finance, business skill development and technology, aiming to develop the service sector of the country. This unique programme aims to blend indigenous knowledge related to management along with modern management practices to form a skilful graduate who can effectively understand the context and contribute to the development of a sustainable country amidst current global challenges.
This is the one and only undergraduate degree in Service Management in Sri Lanka offered within the university system. The service industry and its culture represent a continuously expanding and high-demand field of employment worldwide. In the Sri Lankan context, this trend is even more distinct, with the service sector contributing the highest share to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employing the largest portion of the workforce. Recognizing this growing demand, this degree programme provides a career training opportunity for undergraduates leading to entry-level positions in customer service management, retail management, event management, supply chain management, hospitality management and many other fields. Through this programme, students will gain conceptual knowledge of business and the service industry, along with analytical and problem-solving skills to apply their knowledge in a dynamic setting.
