  1. Please tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is R.A.Thilini Lakshika, and I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate student at the Faculty of Indigenous Social Sciences and Management Studies (FISSMS), Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine. I have a strong passion for understanding society and contributing to sustainable community development. Finally, I want to take opportunities and experiences to polish my qualities and serve the country.

  2. What motivated you to apply for your course at GWUIM?

I was inspired by the university's unique focus on indigenous knowledge systems and holistic education. The blend of traditional wisdom and modern academic perspectives offered by GWUIM was a key factor in my decision. I believed it would allow me to develop both academically and personally while contributing to the local and global community.

  3. What do you think of your course?

The course has been both intellectually enriching and practically relevant. Additionally, it has 4 main pillars like Sociology, Anthropology, Geography and Indigenous Knowledge. Furthermore, I could gain some extra stuff like Life and Professional Skills Development, IT Sessions, and Certificate courses provided by the Department of Management Studies. It has helped me gain a deeper understanding of social structures, cultural dynamics, and sustainable development. The curriculum is well-structured and encourages critical thinking and interdisciplinary learning.

  4. How would you describe the guidance you've received?

The academic and non-academic staff at FISSMS have been extremely supportive and approachable. The guidance I’ve received has helped me overcome challenges and explore my interests in greater depth. Lecturers are always willing to share their expertise and mentor students, which has made a huge difference in my learning journey. Dean, Head of the Departments, lecturers are friendly and kind. Non-Academic staff is also helpful.

  5. How would you describe your experience at FISSMS?

My experience at FISSMS has been fulfilling and transformative. The faculty provides a welcoming environment where students from diverse backgrounds can grow together. Furthermore, there weren't any ragging incidents. The emphasis on both academics and extracurricular activities creates a well-rounded educational experience. Finally, I want to say this faculty is the best place to learn, enjoy and get opportunities for future endeavors.

  6. Have you been involved in extra-curricular activities? If so, what have you gained out of these experiences?

Yes, I have actively participated in several extracurricular activities, including the Leo Club, EcoNexus Green Club, Faculty Media Team and Diversity and Reconciliation Sub committee. These experiences have improved my leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. I’ve also developed a deeper sense of social responsibility and made lasting friendships along the way.
