  1. Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a second-year undergraduate student at Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, following the BSc (Hons) in Social Studies in Indigenous Knowledge under the Faculty of Indigenous Social Sciences and Management Studies (FISSMS). I am an eager learner who is passionate about exploring indigenous knowledge systems, cultural heritage, and integrating technology into sustainable development. I actively seek opportunities to volunteer, contribute to meaningful projects, and engage in initiatives that create a positive social impact.

  2. What motivated you to apply for your course at GWUIM?

Initially, I only knew it was related to social sciences, but as I learned more about the subject pillars and its real-world value, I became deeply interested. The course's focus on preserving indigenous knowledge, cultural sustainability, and community-based learning inspired me to join GWUIM, knowing it was the right place for my academic and personal growth.

  3. What do you think of your course?

The course has been eye-opening and deeply enriching. It provides both theoretical insights and practical exposure, with field visits that allow us to engage directly with communities and understand real-life applications. Each lesson helps us critically reflect on the role of indigenous knowledge in shaping our society. I especially appreciate the balance between academic depth and experiential learning.

  4. How would you describe the guidance you've received?

The guidance at FISSMS has been inspiring. Our lecturers are very humble and approachable, always encouraging us to think independently and apply our knowledge meaningfully. Their teaching style is interactive and engaging, and they foster an environment where students are empowered to ask questions, explore ideas, and grow. The mentorship we receive goes beyond the classroom, shaping both our academic and personal development.

  5. How would you describe your experience at FISSMS?

My experience at FISSMS has been truly special. It is a faculty with a unique culture where we respect each other deeply. There’s no room for discrimination or ragging instead, it’s a space where everyone feels safe, supported, and free to express their ideas. The environment is friendly and inclusive, allowing us to learn and thrive together. The past year has been a beautiful journey filled with learning, laughter, and lasting memories.

  6. Have you been involved in extra-curricular activities? If so, what have you gained out of these experiences?

Yes, I’ve actively participated in various extracurricular activities. We’ve organized cultural events, volunteered in community projects, and taken part in different university clubs. Through these experiences, I’ve gained valuable leadership, planning, and teamwork skills. I’ve also participated in workshops that helped me grow both personally and professionally. These activities have helped me connect classroom knowledge with real-world action while building strong friendships and networks.
