Promoting excellence in indigenous medical research is one of the primary objectives in establishing Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM). Despite long history dating back to thousands of years there is less than expected local and global acceptance of indigenous medicine as a reliable alternative or a supplement to traditional western medicine. This is mainly due to scarcity research supporting the effectiveness and safety of indigenous medical methods and compounds. Said situation has deprived much healthcare benefits to humankind over the years.

 

Research Council of GWUIM provides strategic research direction to the University, coordinate activities and mobilize resources. In addition to monitoring research and facilitating their distribution it ensures compliance by researchers to research ethics.

 

Research Council of GWUIM will continue to play ‘path finding’ role in cruising GWUIM through uncharted waters of future research in indigenous medicine.
